Starting his professional career as a marine officer, Manfred quickly became known in the nautical industry. At the head of the Tour de France à la Voile during 8 years, he then founded Sirius Events, in order to create and develop nautical events in France and Europe. Our TIMEZERO ambassador now organizes off-shore races, international regattas, circuits and events directly related to the nautical industry.

To give you a scale, the organization of the Trasat Jaques Vabres, Tour de France à Voile, Normandy Channel Race and even Sailing Arabia! They are all organized by Sirius Events! In its 10 years of existence, Manfred Rampacher has already been the integral part of 25 events around the world.

We recently caught up with Scientist and TIMEZERO Ambassador who resides on the other side of the world in Patagonia to find out how he is getting on. He recently embarked on a mission to map the seafloor in Patagonia. More than just mapping it, he wants to get qualitative information on each area. Where are the ecosystems thriving and what effect trawler fishing is having on these areas. Funded by the local government and armed with TIMEZERO and underwater cameras, he is collecting a huge amount of information to provide an overall picture of the seafloor.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Gastón Trobbiani, I’m a marine biologist and currently studying a doctorate in the Center of Studies of Marine Systems (CESIMAR-CENPAT) with a grant from CONICET (National Technical and Scientific Investigations Advice) in the city of Puerto Madryn, Chubut, Argentina. My line of work is focused on the development of exploration tools and monitoring with remotely controlled cameras and using these tools to analyze and evaluate the impact that trawling has on the seafloor and their associated ecosystems.

Of course, like any vehicle, when you don’t use it for a long period of time, you need to make sure it’s good to go. Hopefully you will have winterized your boat and so the main work was already done well before the icy cold winter took hold.

Find some tips below to help get your boat ready and back on the water:

Tank

If you have a metal tank, you will have already filled it up before winter. This is so that no moisture can find its way in and start rusting out the tank. If you are reading this and then realized that this could be a problem, it could be worth removing your gas tank and removing any possible rust with any one of a number of solutions and products available on the market such as Rustol, Frameto or Ferose.

These files come in the form of GRIB files just like the ones inside TIMEZERO. For local areas, sometimes it can be useful to get a local perspective on the weather. While TIMEZERO provides a highly accurate weather forecast service, it does so on a global scale and so it could be worth your while to compare the two.
